INTERFACE DESIGN IS SEXY.

At its best interface design is discrete, elegant, and supportive. It lies just below the surface, providing an elastic foundation that adapts to, and subtly enhances, its contents.

Interface design starts with the bare essentials. It serves an inherently practical purpose and requires no embellishment to perform its task adequately. Yet we seem to enjoy the experience of using attractively designed interfaces, as well those that are simply easy to use. It is human nature to try to make even mundane tasks a little more enjoyable.

Interface design is both a decorative art and a practical application of usability principles. It bridges the gap between a computer and the person using it by translating programmatic code into comprehensible visual designs. Good interface design both enables functionality and gently constrains a user's expectations of the same. It seeks to be consistent and self-evident, revealing only as much as is necessary.

"One size fits all," does not apply to interface design. Like a favorite piece of underwear, interface design requires a perfect fit. Often several designs must be tried on before the best solution is found.
