ON SCREEN READING SHOULDN'T SIMULATE PAPER. The lexiaProject was an experiment designed to create a more efficient interface for reading extended texts on screen. This mock up highlights some of the features necessary to support a wide variety of readers and reading styles. The text is broken down into logical grammatical units (lexias) and the active reading moment is focused by shaded type. A throttle-like sticky button (right margin) controls reading speed. The left margin contains a global navigation thumbnail preview, with features for highlighting (yellow stripe), annotating (red squares), viewing linked images (black margin marks, right thumbnails), as well as tools for editing and managing texts.
